New Beginnings: Reflections from Majlis Penyampaian Hadiah & Sijil Tamat Sekolah 2022
I can vividly remember my first day in Secondary 1. I was so scared of starting a new journey and memorizing the Quran. I was so sure I wouldn’t be able to do it. So confident that I would fall behind and fail almost everything. And then, in the blink of an eye and the flash of thunder, I was pinning my badge on my uniform for the last time. Entering the classroom and seeing my classmates, I remember feeling nothing but a surge of pride after not seeing them for so long. I could hardly remember the timid 13 year olds they once were. The decoration filled my heart with warmth and I nearly teared up seeing the ‘Mabruk Class of 2021’ sign at the back of the room. The decoration filled with flowers added on to the beautiful scenery as well and not to mention the musky and nostalgic scent of the bukhoor that filled the classroom air which eased my erratic heart.
Most of all, the proud looks on the parents’ faces and the warm smiles the teachers gave made me feel invincible. The look of disbelief that my friends and I mirrored on each other’s faces tells me we were all thinking the same thing; “I can’t believe we made it!” Haflah has always been exciting for me. It was the time when I witnessed the new beginnings of all my seniors. I was always so proud of everyone that walked up on that stage and never really imagined how it would be like when it was my turn. When the honourable Ustaz Hasyim called upon my name to receive my shahadah, for the first time, I felt proud of myself. And judging by the smile and tears my friends shared, they felt it too. That feeling further intensified for me when my friend Qurratu Ain gave her beautifully heart-warming speech which motivated me to no end. I know that the cohort this year will enjoy this magical day like I did!
